diabetes insipidus

Diabetes insipidus is a rare metabolic disorder in which the patient produces large volumes of dilute urine and is constantly thirsty. Diabetes insipidus is caused by a deficiency of the antidiuretic hormone (ADH), which regulates the reabsorption of water in the kidneys. It is treated by administration of the hormone. Not to be confused with diabetes mellitus.
